This painting was created to illustrate the corrupting effects of organized religion. The history of mankind is filled with examples of men using religion as a means of seeking power and control over society. From the Inquisition to today's radical terrorist mind set, the application of religious teachings can fall short of it's lofty ideals. In this piece religion has been corrupted by monetary gain in the form of the Mercedes-Benz. It has gone 'off track' and crashed into a telephone pole which is also a large cross. The souls of the dead occupants are pulled out by avenging angels who meet out justice by forcing them to pay for their sins.
