I had the privelege of being accepted into the copy program at the Metropolitan Museum of Art which lets artists set up an easel and paint a duplicate of the original. This method allows you to study the actual artwork in great detail and lets one see colors and textures that would not reproduce well in a photograph. I chose this piece because of my interest in medieval and renaissance Art. I was attracted to the simplicity of form and the luminescent quality of the paint. One of the unusual stipulations of the copy program was that the copy had to be at least 10% larger or smaller than the original-I imagine they would not want your version to be so exacting the you could exchange it and walk off with the real thing. It was also an interesting experience trying to concentrate on your work with a crowd of tourists standing behind you, watching your every brushstroke.
